The project focuses on the development and experimental validation of advanced nanorobots for the targeted destruction of bacterial biofilms on plastic and metallic materials used in medicine. Biofilm-related infections represent a major clinical challenge, particularly in connection with medical devices such as intravenous catheters, titanium plates, implants, and other artificial surfaces.
The project investigates magnetically and light-propelled nanorobots combining catalytic activity with targeted antibiotic delivery. Their ability to penetrate and remove bacterial biofilms will first be evaluated in vitro and subsequently in vivo, including assessment of their penetration, toxicity, inflammatory response, and overall safety. The ultimate goal is to identify nanorobotic systems with high biofilm-removal efficiency, good tissue penetration, and minimal toxicity, paving the way towards future therapeutic applications against difficult-to-treat biofilm-associated infections.
