The project focuses on the development of advanced solid-state electrolytes for rechargeable aluminium batteries as a promising and sustainable alternative to conventional lithium-ion battery technologies. It aims to address the limitations of current liquid electrolytes and inorganic solid-state electrolytes through the use of highly porous and tunable metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). By incorporating ionic liquids into MOF structures, the project will develop novel IL@MOF solid electrolytes and investigate their ion-conduction mechanisms, electrochemical interfaces, and structure–property relationships.

The resulting materials are expected to enable safer, flexible, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly aluminium solid-state batteries with improved electrochemical performance. The project contributes to the development of next-generation energy-storage technologies and supports the European transition towards a low-carbon economy based on renewable energy sources.
